Creative Costume ideas for Playing an Escape Room
If there’s one way to get your group of friends even more excited for an activity, it’s to turn up in costume! Whether you’re heading to an escape room for a birthday party, a stag party or a hen party… turning up in fancy dress is a sure-fire way to ensure you look and feel the part! It’s gets everyone into character, and makes the whole experience even more memorable and enjoyable.
A great thing about costumes for fancy dress is, it doesn’t need to end at the escape room. You can keep the costumes on for your evening meal, drinks or night out afterwards!
There are loads of different costume ideas you can roll with, depending on the kind of escape room you’re participating in. Here are some of our favourite ideas…
Suited and booted
Inspiration: 007, James Bond, Mission Impossible
You’ve seen the movies… Where the suave and sophisticated spy or double agent has to solve the clues and puzzles to get them out of a tricky situation. Use this as inspiration for your escape room costumes – and turn up dressed like the slickest spy out there. Martini glass is optional of course!
To infinity and beyond
Inspiration: Armageddon, Star Trek, Total Recall
If you escape room is space themed, why not opt for a dress up theme of space, astronauts and aliens? You can try and create the best possible space suit, or you can go all ET and turn up as the alien itself. Whichever you choose, it’ll be out of this world.
Escape room redemption
Inspiration: Shawshank Redemption, Prison Break, Orange is the New Black
If your escape room theme is prison related, or something along the lines of ‘breaking out’ – then dressing up as prison inmates is a great costume choice. You could go old school with the styling (black and white striped jumpsuits) or go for something a little more current. Whichever you choose, just make sure no-one loses the keys to the handcuffs.
Zombies R us
Inspiration: The Walking Dead, Zombie-land, 28 Weeks Later
Horror escape rooms are really popular, and zombies seem to be one of the most popular themes out there at the moment. Of course, zombies are an easily costume choice, and it’s something that requires little effort to look effective. So find some fake blood and some talc powder… You’ll look great.
Whichever costume you choose to go for, you’ll definitely look the part with any of these suggestions! Get everyone involved and give them plenty of notice, so they can prepare their costume ideas way in advance. You could even give out a prize for the best costume too, to add extra motivation!
