Are Escape Rooms Suitable for Pregnant Women?
If you’re planning a day out to one of our VR escape rooms in London, but you’re pregnant, or your have pregnant guests coming along – you might be wondering if the VR escape room experience is something suitable for pregnant women.
Whilst we can’t generalise and assume that all escape rooms are suitable for pregnant women, our standard answer would be yes. Pregnant women should be able to participate with an real life escape room experience.
However, different escape rooms have different elements to them – so we do recommend asking the escape room provider several questions before booking, just to ensure you (or your pregnant friend) will enjoy the experience and that it’s fully suitable. Keep reading to find out what you should ask, and what you should look out for.
Using Escape Rooms When Pregnant
Does the escape involves anything overly physical?
Getting physical shouldn’t be an issue in the early months of pregnancy, but standing for too long, or running around or crawling might not be suitable in the later months of pregnancy. With this, it’s best just to ask the pregnant party member what levels of movement she’s comfortable with – and whether the staff can help work around it.
Most will be happy to! If it can’t be changed (for example – crawling out of a tunnel) then the pregnant party member can always choose to sit out during the more challenging parts. For standing up, additional chairs can be provided for the pregnant party member, that may be the only change needed to be made – so it’s always worth asking.
Does the escape room include loud noises, scares, vibrations or bangs?
Certain escape rooms (especially those with horror themes and VR escape rooms) might include loud noises, scares, vibrations or bangs as part of the clue quest. Whilst some pregnant women may be comfortable with this, if you think it’ll make you uncomfortable or anxious, it’s probably best to be avoided. Pregnant women shouldn’t put their body or mind under any additional stress if they can help it – so if you think any of these things would upset you then it’s best to wait outside.
Can pregnant guests take toilet breaks?
We all know that toilet breaks are a big part of life when you’re pregnant! If you’re worried about not being able to take a toilet break – just clarify with the game masters if it’s possible. During escape experiences, you should always be able to exit the room if you need to though – so we can’t see this being an issue.
